Boyle Gaa AGM

Boyle AGM was held virtually on Sunday night, the 12th of December. A large attendance signed in with what is the norm now.  The club paid tribute to the outgoing Secretary Jan Flanagan who is an absolute stalwart in the club's administration and organisation. If you didn’t know…’Ask Jan’ was the 2 words 2 – syllables, used,  to point you in the right direction. Thank you, Jan!

It was a big year on and off the field and a lot of progress was made against all the odds in some cases, we still found a way. A special mention to the joint fundraiser held during the year with Boyle Celtic and Boyle Gaa and the committee that formed and forged a hugely successful campaign.

While on the field, it must be noted that Boyle featured in a number of finals, in both Men’s and Ladies football, we hope to see Boyle Building in 2022 both inside and outside the Whitewash line!

Christmas Charity Game

We have had a few inquiries for the charity game and its still going ahead, and its on a Sunday too!!

It’s officially silly season, you know what that means right? Time to dig out the Santa hats and get the boots polished - our St Stephen’s Day Charity Match is back!

Condolences to Hal Cawley’s Families

The town, County, and its surrounds lost a huge character in sporting circles in Hal Cawley this week. Hal was born and reared, down the laneway from Ernie and Carmel Keenan on the Carrick Road and this was his closest family, not necessarily by name but by nature. In His Sporting Family, Hal’s love was very much with Boyle Celtic where he spent decades nurturing and following talents and seeing the club rise through the years. He will be missed cycling around town with his well-known larger-than-life figure and heart.  Reading all the tributes about Hal this week, Gentleman was used very often, and that he was. Corrib Oil U19 Girls

Our Corrib Oil U19 Girls travelled to Kiltoom on Sunday to play St Brigid’s in the Division 1 Championship Final. It was a bright and fresh morning and there was great support from family and friends of the Club on the side-lines.

From the beginning it looked like a tough battle would take place as both teams were hungry for the title. Our ladies put up a good defence and manoeuvred their way through to the posts on several occasions, however, at the final whistle our opponents lifted the cup.

St. Brigid’s went up 2.04 to 0.01 at the first water break as it proved difficult for our offence to break through a tight back line. But the second quarter was our time to shine, and as we came into our stride, the scores started to tick. First from A. Roddy, and then on a quick turnover by our defence, there was one each for S. King and M. McKeon in quick succession. Shortly afterwards, we were awarded a penalty and A. Feely expertly positioned it in the back of the net. Although they did not score in the second quarter, St Brigid’s led at half time 2.04 to 1.04.

Our determined back line led by Captain I. King, M. Brogan and E. Scally paired with the safe hands of keeper R. Johnson cleared a number of balls to prevent Brigid’s from adding to their tally. However, the second penalty of the game was awarded to our opponents just before the second water break, and it made its way into the net. At the end of the third quarter, it was 3.06 to 1.06 to St Brigid’s. Our ladies never stopped fighting throughout the last 15mins and we had further scores from A. Feely and H. Kerins but unfortunately today wasn’t our day and the game finished on a score line of 4.08 to 2.08

Team Listing: R. Johnson, C. Byrne, M. Brogan, R. Duggan, K. Roddy, I. King (C), E. Scally, S. King (0.01), S. Wynne, H. Kerins (0.01), M. Mc Keon (0.01), A. Feely (2.04 - 1.01 from frees), L. Downes, A. Roddy (0.01), S. McGrath. Subs: Z. Kearney for L. Downes. With: P. Ewing, L. Lynch Dolan, T. Casey, C. O’Dowd, C. O’Donnell, A. Kennedy, C. Cregg, T. Sheridan and K. Garavan.

The Club and panel expressed their thanks to their management team of Vinny, Mick and Damian, sponsor Corrib Oil, as well as the parents, family and friends who supported the team throughout the season. Boyle is building, and we look forward to seeing this group of players develop and flourish in years to come.

Thank you from Boyle LGFA

And on that note, Boyle LGFA’s season has officially ended. The Club wishes to thank all coaches, players, parents, helpers and sponsors for their continued contributions to the Club - without your support and dedication, we would not have the Club we have today.

Bumper Final Weekend ahead For Boyle Gaa: The Lads, The Ladies & The Older Lads – The suspense – We have it all!

2021 Division 1 U17 Championship Final

Our National Automation Limited sponsored U17 Boys travelled to Dr. Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon for their much anticipated Division One Championship Final against old rivals Roscommon Gaels.

It was Roscommon Gaels who made the brighter start, registering four points without reply.

Niall O’Donnell opened Boyle’s account with a point from play on eight minutes.

However, Roscommon Gaels remained dominant for the opening half scoring a goal and several points which contributed to a handsome lead.

Luke McGrath, O'Donnell (a free), Gavin O’Connor (one from play and one free) and Daniel Casey kept Boyle in the contest with the margin at eight at half time.

The second half certainly was Boyle’s. Cathal McKeon raised a white flag before Conor Kelly ran at the heart of the defence and buried the ball beyond the Roscommon Gaels Goalkeeper.

Niall O’Donnell made no mistakes from two frees before the same player converted a 45 on forty-one minutes.

Oran Henry made a trademark run from wing back a minute later and slotted over with his weaker left boot to leave the margin at one.

David Flanagan levelled proceedings on the stroke of the second half water break which sent a loud roar around Dr. Hyde Park.

Roscommon Gaels found the back of the net straight after the water break which some felt would be the deciding score.

Cathal McKeon from play and a Niall O’Donnell free left the deficit at one. Boyle searched for an equaliser but unfortunately, did not find one.

Commiserations to the players and management who can certainly hold their heads high following a brilliant fight back.

Team: S. Garavan; J. Coyle, D. Casey (0-1), M. Dwyer; O. Henry (0-1), E. Kerins, M. Halligan; C. Kelly (1-0), N. O'Donnell 0-7, 5 frees, 1 '45); D. Duggan, L. McGrath (0-1), C. McKeon (0-2); S. Noone, G. O'Connor (0-2, 1 free), D. Flanagan (0-1).

With: D. Beirne, J. Kennedy, N. Callan, O. MacDermott, A. McGee, K. McKeon, T. Walsh.

Thanks to Ciarán Phelan and National Automation for sponsoring our U17 and U20 teams again this year.

Boyle LGFA

The Well & M Kerins Construction Boyle Intermediate Ladies

The Well and M Kerins Construction sponsored Intermediate Ladies had a hard-fought battle versus St Dominic's in the Championship Final on Saturday. There were changeable conditions and between blustery winds and scattered showers, there was a wet pitch under foot.

Although St Dominic’s had a strong wind behind them, there were only 3pts in the game at half time. Our Ladies fought all the way to the final whistle, but the scores that our opponents put up with their advantage in the first half ultimately stood to them as they lifted the cup on a full-time score of Boyle - 1.03 to St Dominic’s - 1.08. Unfortunately, it was not our day, but the grit and determination shown by this group throughout the season was formidable.

Team Listing: Ruth Johnson, Suzie Keenehan, Isabelle King, Shannon Kerins, Shauna Moran, Saoirse Wynne, Sophie King, Ruth Cox, Roisín Wynne (0.01), Grace Flanagan, Megan McKeon, Caoimhe Cregg (1.01), Aisling Feely (0.01f), Saffron Cull, Michaela Ward. Subs used: Natasha Regan for Flanagan, Heather Kerins for Cull, Sinead Meehan for Keenehan. Extended panel: Kate Harrington, Porcia Ewing, Niamh Beirne, Aimee Roddy, Shannon Cull, Emma Scally, Maeve Brogan, Danni McLoughlin, Katelyn Roddy, Tara Sheridan, Cliona McDermott, Cliodhna O’Dowd, Ruth Duggan, Aine Mullins, Kate Garavan.

The panel expressed their thanks to their sponsors, The Well, M Kerins Construction and also Ryan’s Pharmacy, Boyle for sponsoring first-aid kits for the team.

The Club wishes to thank the Vinny, Mick & Damien, the players, crew, parents, and sponsors for their time and support throughout the year. Some great times are ahead for you all, and you'll come back stronger. Believe.

Boyle Masters representing in the All Ireland Final Shield

The Roscommon Masters (Over 40’s) played in a keenly contested Match in Drumlish on a fresh Saturday afternoon. Our Club representatives Seamus Kane & Lochlainn Conboy performed very well in a fast paced first half where Roscommon went in 6 points up at the break. ‘Shakes’ Kane raising the flag 4 times with 2 from play and Conboy ‘s Craft causing Chaos with the Cavan Corner Back. Halftime score was 1.10 to 2.01. The Second half however was a turning of the tide with a black card on Emmett Collins giving an advantage to Cavan as they scored 4 points in this period. Shakes’ hit 2 Frees, Finishing with 6 points, and was on song from the dead ball all day. Roscommon had a chance to draw game at the end with a free well in Kane’s range unfortunately didn’t get the opportunity to take it. We are never too old to learn… even in Masters!! Final Score 2.10 to 1.12 Cavan by a point.

Its interesting in speaking to the players how hungry they are to make amends next year! Honourable mention to one of our favourite net minders Jonathan Conroy Ex Boyle No.1 who was injured and was missed for his experience and presence. Well done to all involved Management, Team and sponsors. I believe FRS in Great Meadow and Smith Kelly Scott were part of the sponsorship locally.

I stayed on for the Dublin-Tyrone Final afterwards having friends on both sides.  Seeing the likes of Stephen O’Neill still glistening and Eoin Gormley still well able to play. These guys have minor, u21, Senior and now Masters All Ireland Titles! Kudos to this competition!

2020 Division 1 Championship Final

Pride of place this week must go to our James Lannon Motors/ Hankook Tyres sponsored U16 team, who, after much delay, were crowned 2020 U16 Division 1 Champions following a seven-point victory over Eire Óg/ Michael Glaveys in Kilbride on Saturday evening.

After a nervy opening, in which Boyle fell two points behind, the players showed fight and determination way beyond their years to capture the elusive cup.

The instrumental Conor Kelly registered Boyle’s first score at eleven minutes after he evaded several challenges.

Eire Óg/ Michael Glaveys looked in for a certain goal, however, Boyle goalkeeper Seán Garavan produced a magnificent save.

This was the wake-up call Boyle needed. Gavin O’Connor gathered a Shay Noone pass and found Conor Kelly. Kelly spotted Eden Kerins and the centre-half back split the uprights with a score with the outside of his right boot.

Gavin O’Connor played a quick one-two with Luke McGrath on twenty-three minutes before finding David Duggan with a pass along the ground. Duggan smartly kept the ball low and hard beyond the despairing dive of the Eire Óg/ Michael Glaveys goalkeeper.

O’Connor and Niall O’Donnell were accurate from placed balls while Conor Kelly registered his second and third of the contest right before half time to leave five points between the sides at the interval.

Niall O’Donnell raised a white flag once more ten minutes into the second half after a confident free.

O’Donnell and O’Connor exchanged frees as Eire Óg/ Michael Glaveys looked to claw back the deficit.

Joseph Coyle and Mark Dwyer stifled an Eire Óg/ Michael Glaveys attack after forty-two minutes. Coyle fisted to captain Daniel Casey, who played a delightful pass into the path of Cathal McKeon, who’s pace and strength were too much for his opponents, and added his name to the scoresheet.

Seán Garavan was called into action again on fifty minutes, once again, the Boyle netminder was equal to it showing brilliant reactions.

David Duggan added a point to his tally before wing-backs Oran Henry and Mark Halligan combined with Henry splitting the uprights with a deft finish.

Eire Óg/ Michael Glaveys registered a mere consolation goal in injury time before Gavin O’Connor left the margin at seven at the full-time whistle, which was greeted to loud, rapturous cheers from the sizeable Boyle support.

[03/10, 12:56] Ronan Flanagan: Team: Seán Garavan; Joseph Coyle, Daniel Casey, Mark Dwyer; Oran Henry (0-1), Eden Kerins (0-1), Mark Halligan; Conor Kelly (0-3), Niall O’Donnell (0-4, 4 frees); Gavin O’Connor (0-3, 3 frees), Luke McGrath, Cathal McKeon (0-1); Shay Noone, David Duggan (1-1), David Flanagan.

Subs used: Jamie Kennedy and David Beirne. With: Nicholas Callan, Oisín Mac Dermott, Andrew McGee, Karl McKeon and Tommy Walsh.

Senior and Junior Championship

Our McGovern Directional Drilling sponsored Senior Men bowed out to Padraig Pearses in the Quarter Final on Sunday. Boyle Opened with a dream start getting 2 goals through Donie Smith and Tadgh McKenna. Going into the break 3 points up Pearses got a goal bringing it level 2.3 to 1.6 at the half time break. Unfortunately, that was the better half Boyle played and couldn’t break down Pearses on the resumption. Final score 2.9 to 2.5. Thanks to the players and management and all our support during the year.

The Cooney Motors Sponsored Junior team have come through an appeal process over score difference and now face St Dominic’s in the play off for a place in Quarter Final of the Junior A Championship. Please keep an eye out in our Social media For details during the week.

2020 Division 1 Championship Final
With Covid bringing a halt to all youth outdoors sports during year 2020, our U16’s boys have been eagerly awaiting to play their division 1 final, as it has been postponed for over a year now.
Having gone through all their Div 1 U16 group games unbeaten and winning all but one of their 6 games, Boyle were joined table toppers with Roscommon Gaels. A toss of a coin decided who would go through straight to the final. Boyle won the toss and awaited the winners of the semi-final between Roscommon Gaels and Eire Óg/Michael Glaveys.
Covid brought everything to a standstill late in that year and the semi final and final were postponed until further notice.  With the resumption of gaa youth’s games of the 2021 season the lads had to wait longer, and also now with many of our lads proudly representing Boyle in the minor county team there were further delays of the semi final and final games.
The semi-final only getting played recently with Eire Óg/Michael Glaveys going through to meet our boys in the final, the stage is now set.
We now have a division U16 championship final set for this Saturday 2nd at 0:00 in venue. The lads and their coaches have trained hard all this season as it the same group of lads who are going well in the current U17 div 1 championship. The lads have had a dress rehearsal of the final having played in Eire Óg/Michael Glaveys in a tight affair in the U17 Championship, so this is sure to be a titanic battle.
Please show your support for our lads and get down in your Boyle colours and show your support and hopeful they will be crowned Roscommon Division 1 U16 Champions.
Good luck lads from all Boyle GAA and keep a close eye on Boyle GAA social media for further updates coming up to the final

Final is now fixed for Saturday Oct 2nd in Kilbride at 7pm

U14 Girls

Congratulations to our U14 Girls who retained the North Roscommon League last night by beating Shannon Gaels in Croghan on a score line of 5.08 to 1.07. The final score does not reflect how close the game was - play was in the balance until the last 10 minutes when our girls seized their opportunities with some well taken goals. Big thank you to the management and support crew for all their time and effort this year, and well done again girls, onwards and upwards!

U8 Girls

Our U8 Girls have finished up their fun-filled season. All of the girls put in a huge effort and we’ve seen great development in their skills. Special thanks to the Management, Trainers, Covid Supervisors, and parents for all of their help and assistance throughout the year. We look forward to seeing what this bunch gets up to on the pitch for many years to come!
