Abbey Park hosted a fine encounter between Mayo and Roscommon Masters which ended in a draw at 1.11 to 14. Congratulations to our own Stephen Tonry who put in a fine performance at midfield.

The Cooney Motor sponsored Junior team travelled to Tarmonbarry Friday evening for a league game. Boyle were missing many of their starting players but nevertheless saw a panel of 20 lads. Boyle played against a strong breeze in the first half which saw them go in at the break 8 points to 6 down. The second half saw a much more spirited performance which saw Boyle run out comfortable winners at 10 to 2.20. There was a battle for top scorer on the day with David “The Finisher” Kelly taking the prize with 1.6, closely followed by Colin Goldrick with 7 points and Seamus Kane with 6. Marc O Connor, Conboy and Halligan scored the remainder of the points with James Boulger scoring a top corner goal. Well done to team and management. Boyle registered some well worked scores to get back on terms and went in at half time on a score line of 4-02 to 2-03 in Clanns favour. Boyle came out a fired up team in the 2nd half and reeled off 1-03 to take a 1 point lead , they pushed on to lead by 5 points with some great defending and well worked scores. Clann got a penalty in the last few minutes to bring it back to 2 but Boyle won the kick out and scored the final point of the game . Great contest and huge congratulations to the lads all round.

Update May 21st

Boyle`s eagerly anticipated La na  gClub was hosted on Sunday past. This turned out to be a wonderful occasion with a mix of all ages through out the club. Apart from the weather everything went according to plan. A sincere thank you to the committee and all volunteers who made the day possible. Of course the draw for the club monster draw was a great attraction. The overall winner of a €2,500 holiday voucher was Brian Nerney, the All Ireland tickets and night away went to Fiona and Melissa Mattimoe and the final prize of a €150 voucher to award winning Buffalo Boy went to Tadgh McKenna. The club was delighted to recognise Mikey Mc Grath on his great achievement on being selected for international soccer duty. Mikey's had the honour of picking the winners of the Monster Draw along with Kathleen Hanmore.

The club lotto saw no winner if the € 4,700 jackpot, €20 winners were Gerry Nerney, Amy Kenny and Brian Furey. Next week's draw will take place in Dodd`s bar.

It was a disappointing day out again for the McGovern Directional Drilling Senior team who lost to Clann Na Gael in the Abbey Park on Saturday evening. Both teams players without their county stars. Boyle started strongly and played some fine football in the first half but coincided a goal and point just before the break which left a margin of 6 points at half time, in what was really a unfair reflection of the work. In the first half. Boyle would be fighting hard again in the second half if they were to get a win and a well taken goal from Seamus. Kane (1.4) slowed the margins. Some poor shooting and shot selection in the later quarter from/boyle say Clann the eventual winners by 1.16 to 1.10. Boyle`S team; R Kearney, A Sharkey, D Callaghan, C Beirne, B Furery, S Purcell, R Finneran, R Hanmore, E McGrath, D Easy, C Goldrick, Ciaran Cox, S Kane, M Hanmore, Marc O Connor.

Update 14th May

The junior team were in action this weekend in a league game v neighbours Ballinameen. There was a strong breeze which should have aided Boyle in the first half but the score return from shots was poor and Boyle finished the half with only 3 scores 2 of which were well taken goals by Jack Moran and Seamus Kane. Boyle had to battle hard in the second half as Ballinameen for 13 men behind the ball time and time again, breaking at pace with numbers. Boyle pressed hard and eventually drew level thanks to a long range free from Colin Goldrick (who kept Boyle in the game for most of the 60 minutes) but it was not to be as Ballinameen broke up the field and won a free on front of the post which was slotted over for the last kick of the game.
Congratulations to Mike Tormey who came on as a sub after a number of years away from the team. Best wishes to Thomas Halligan who picked up and injury in the match.
Thee Boyle team was D McGovern, C McGee, C Boylan, C Horan, J Moran, A Sharkey, J Regan, P Lavin, T Halligan, Marc O Connor, C Goldrick, L Casey, S Kane, S Conlon and L Conboy.

Update 7th May

The club Junior team travelled to Kilglass in Saturday evening for a double league an championship decider. Boyle had an astonishing panel of 29, whereas Kilglass could only field the mee 13. Boyles C Horan and Mark O Conner had to be left on the bench as a result. Boyle started the game the brighter and it was not long before the newbie Dublin native Sean Conlon bagged the first of his two goals. Boyle were lining up to take shots with Nall O Donoughue on song. However with space at the back due to a two man fullforward line, Boyle defenders were kept on their toes with Declan Mc Govern saving two goal chances and Conor Boylan doing th same at full back. Boyle took a ten point lead at half time. In the second half Boyle brought on their maximum of 6 subs and ended up comfortable winners 4.17 to 10. Boyles team was D Mc Govern, C McGee, C Boylan, J Moran, Cian Beirne, J Regan, P Lavin, T Halligan, D Kelly, R Hannon, Marc O Connor, N O Donougue and S Conlon. Minor Division 3 Semi Final Boyle v Western Gaels Match Report Sunday 6th
With a spot in the Minor division 3 final up for grabs, Boyle hosted local rivals Western Gales. Boyle were hoping for a repeat performance against Western Gaels having beaten already by 8-point margin in an earlier fixture. Boyle showed early intent by registering early scores on the score line. Boyle continued playing well and kept Western Gaels to little scoring chances. Boyle went into the break 1:8 to 0:3. Boyle came out in the 2nd half looking to continue the performance as the 1st. But Western Gaels had other ideas came out all guns blazing and applied severe pressure and narrowed the gap to 3 points leading into midway of the 2nd half.  Boyle settled themselves with and took strangle hold on the game and say tie through after scoring 2 goals. Boyle won 3-14 to 1-12and secured and the place in the Minor Division 3 final.

U14 Division 1 League Boyle v Roscommon Gales Thursday 3rd
Well it truly did turn out to be an epic battle in Abbey last Thursday evening. With Boyle and Roscommon Gaels in the hunt for the U14 Division 1 title as they lined up against each other tonight. Boyle scored a very early goal and took control of the game. The Gaels got into their stride and started registering scores on the scoreboard and took the lead and stretched it further to go in at half with 5 point lead 1:8 to 1:3. Roscommon Gaels continued the 2nd half as they did, the latter stages of 1st half. They continued to widen the lead and put up what look like an insurmountable lead of 10 points. But Boyle never stopped working on the pitch as they never let their heads drop and started to get grip of game again as they scored 3 unanswered goals and clawed their way back into the competition. Both teams traded scores to the end of the game. The game ended up unable to separate the sides. Both teams put on an absolute brilliant evening of excitement with superb football being played by both, with a drawn game on the scoreboard 5:9 to 4:12
