Update April 29th

Boys underage;

National Automation and FAAC Minors had an impressive win last week. There was a change to original fixture as that their opponents Kilglass/St Barrys conceded late on in the day. St Aidans obliged by bringing forward their fixture against Boyle. Boyle were in control from the start and there was some sublime points being scored by our lads. The lads ran out clear winners on a dark evening in Abbey Park to win the game 2-18 to 1-07. Well done lads and coaches.

 Tough luck to the U14 boys, who were narrowly beaten by Western Gaels in Frenchpark last week. Western Gaels started the brightest and registered a very early goal to put Boyle under pressure for the rest of the first half. Western  Gaels went in at half time with a 5 point lead. Boyle came out at half time a better team and steadied their ship. Boyle got themselves on level terms and then led by point in the mid way stages of the 2nd half. Both teams traded the lead for the rest of game, but Gaels shaded it in the end with a slim one point margin in this division 1 encounter. Western Gaels 3-04  Boyle 1-09.

There was no winner of this weeks. Lotto jackpot of 9,400. The numbers drawn were 9,11,18&28.€20 winners were Gerry McCormack, Jackie Farrell and Jim McGrath. Next weeks draw takes place in the Stairs.

Our McGovern Directional Drilling sponsored senior team played there 3 game in the league this weekend against Roscommon Geals. A minutes silence was observed prior to the game for the late Sean Young. On what was a particularly wet and windy day both teams traded scores for the opening quarter untill Boyles Dylan East scored the first of Boyles goals. This was followed up again minutes later by a second from Cian McKeon. At this stage and into the second half these were the difference between the two teams. Geals got a goal them selves in the second half and for the second time in two weeks, Rob Kearney decided the visiotrs a goal from the spot kick, saving with extended legs this time round. Donnie Smith got the third of Boyles goals and it was a nail biting finish as Geals kept on tagging on points but it was not to be their day with Boyle finishing the stronger on a score line of 3.09 to 1.14. A win a fitting tribute to the late Sean Young.
Team; R Kearney, C Cox, C Flannagan, A Sharkey, D East, M O Connor, E McGrath, R Finneran, T McKenna, E Smith, C McKeon, S Purcell, D Smith, S Kane.

Under age Boys Match Reports
U14 Division 1 League St Brigids v Cooney Motors Boyle 11/04
Our boys were on their travels for the second week running heading south to St Brigids. Buoyed from their last victorious trip there was no doubt the U14 lads were up for this game. They started on the front foot right from the beginning and put in an impressive performance for the whole game. They closed the game on a score line of 3.04 to 5.15, gaining themselves a second win under belt after 3 games of their Division 1 League.

Minor Division 2 League Ballinameen\Elphin v National Automation 14/04
This was a bruising encounter between two local rivals and a much-anticipated match that did not disappoint on the entertainment value. Ballinameen\Elphin looked very strong from the beginning and seemed to be able to cope better with the rain-soaked pitch which gave a very erratic ball bounce. Ballinameen\Elphin pressed their dominance and went into the break with a big lead which Boyle had no answer for. The second half saw Boyle come out fighting and they worked very hard to close the gap, managing to narrow the lead to just 1 point at one stage. With the pitch deteriorating and scuffles breaking out regularly, both the flow of the game, and the Boyle rhythm broke down. In the end Ballinameen\Elphin edged a 3 point win. Ballinameen\Elphin 2:13 Boyle 3:07

Update April 8th

The McGovern Directional Drilling sponsored senior team took on St Croans in the Abbey Park. Boyle started he better and should have led by more at half time after a number of missed opportunities to pull ahead. Boyle did pull ahead in the second half through a penalty well earned by Enda Smith, with Donie stepping up to calmly slot it away. However Boyle failed to push on and gave away a penalty themselves. Rob Kearney stayed big and got his body to the bottom corner to save and Boyle were let off the hook to win by a a margin of two points on the score line of 1.12 to 0.13. Boyle team R Kearney, K Cox, C Flannagan, A Simon, T McKenna, M O Connor, E McGrath, R Finneran, E Smith, J Moran, D Smith, D East, M O Donoghue, S Kane and A Sharkey. With C McKeon, S Purcell, C Goldrick, K Cox and R Hanmore all seeing action in the second half.
They next face Roscommon Geals this coming weekend in the Abbey Park.

Boyle GAA Boys Youths Weekly Notes:
Boyle's U16 Lannon Motors Boys were unlucky to be beaten by their visiting opponents Clann na Gael on a cold and dark Tuesday evening in the Division 1 League at Abbey Park. Despite Clann scoring an early goal, Boyle were the better side in the first half and lead at break. Clann came out strong in the 2nd and managed to claw back the deficit. Both teams played some great football and were evenly matched, but Clann were able to secure the win with a small 2 point margin. Boyle 1-06 : Clann na nGael 2-05.

However Boyle ran out of steam in the second half and a second half goal mid way through for Brighids sealed the defeat on the score line of 1.13 to 2.09. The U14 boys competed in their 2nd game of Division 1 league when they took the long trip to hosts Clann na nGael. Things didn’t look good from the start as Clann na nGael got out blocks earlier with only a minute on the clock Clann hit the net with a looping shot over Boyle’s keeper. Boyle steady themselves and got into to game and soon registered a point on the scored. Both teams traded shots but failing to score, earlier on. Boyle then took command of the game and started to clock up the scores on the scoreboard. Boyle went in at halftime 0:7 to 1:0 . Boyle defence were excellent as the kept Clann out as the host fail to register another score since the first earlier goal but the Clann defence did their job to where Boyle should have a bigger lead at half time. Boyle started to find their way around their opponents defence in the 2nd half and started to put day light between themselves and Clann and ended the game as clear winners with 1-13 to 2:4 on the scoreboard to Boyle.
