U11s on Tour !

Over 30 young footballers (U11) from Boyle GAA made the trip to Croke Park yesterday to partake in the Connacht GAA Go Games Blitz. What an amazing experience for these young players who made 2 teams, with each team playing 3 games against teams from other clubs in the province. A stadium tour followed. Both players and coaches are so thankful to Connacht GAA and Roscommon GAA for the opportunity. The day was excellently put together and the individual organisers were so accommodating in ensuring the young players got to experience all that Croke park offers. We are truly thankful and it is a day they will never forget!

All of us in Boyle GAA were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Dessie McLoughlin

He was a key member of the 1981 Roscommon Minor Connacht Championship winning team and he starred on many Boyle teams throughout the 80’s and 90’s, including the 1983 and 1996 Intermediate County Championship winning teams

First and foremost, Dessie was a family man. He loved his wife Margaret, his children Kyle, Ben and Gina, his parents (Martin RIP and Nuala), his siblings and his grandchildren. Their loss is irreplaceable and no words can help with your grief, nor can they express how much we will all be thinking of you and praying for you in the coming days, weeks, months and years.

Boyle lost one of it’s great sons. His energy and love for Boyle, it’s clubs and it’s people will be sorely missed.

Notes

All of us in Boyle GAA were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Club Honorary Vice President Michael Costello. We extend our deepest condolences to May, Mary, Collette, Carmel, Feargal, Eimear and all his family.

Michael came to Boyle in the 80’s from his home place of Kilconly, Co Galway (via Newport Co. Mayo, Ballyfarnon and other stops!). He immediately immersed himself in the community and one of his passions was “The Gaa” as he called it. He was a pillar of our club, taking on several roles through the years (including selector with Sean Young for the 1994 Intermediate winning men’s team, on which his son Feargal played).

Michael also had a great playing career, playing for successful St Pats Tuam CBS and St. Ronan's GAA & LGFA teams.

Michael was inducted into Boyle GAA’s Hall of Fame in 2017. He is one of the Club’s great volunteers, having helped build this club into what it today is and his presence at matches, dinner dances and all club events will be sorely missed.

AGM

Last month, both Boyle GAA Club and Boyle LGFA Club held their Annual General Meetings. To reflect on a historic year for Gaelic Games in the town, we have summarised below what took place at both AGMs:

Boyle GAA Club AGM took place at Abbey Park on December 8th. Secretary Michael Tormey gave his report on the on-field activities during the year and congratulated all teams and their mentors, in particular the u13 team/mentors who won the Keenan Cup and the adult Junior team/mentors who won the Junior B Championship. Outgoing Chairman David Kelly gave his address in which he highlighted some of the club's achievements this year and over the last four years during which he was chair. These included Enda Smith’s all-star award, the senior team winning the Senior league for the first time in the club's history in 2022, the senior team reaching two county finals in a row in 2022 and 2023 (something which had not been done since 1927 until 2022), the joint fundraiser with Boyle Celtic in 2021, tarmacking the abbey park grounds and installing seats into the John Joe Nerney Stand. He also congratulated the ladies club on their historic championship-winning achievement in 2023 and Donal Smith on reaching the milestone of 100 appearances for Roscommon. David thanked all the club’s sponsors and in particular Tony (RIP), Mark and Declan McGovern of McGovern Civils, Alan Cooney of Cooney Motors and Ciarรกn Phelan of National Automation. David also thanked all the coaches, committee members, volunteers, players and parents involved in the club. Boyle LGFA AGM took place on Friday 1st December in Boyle GAA clubhouse.

Each manager give a report for the year noting the different achievements in our U14, U16 and in particular the Senior Ladies who made history by winning their first Senior County title. This year saw the introduction of ‘Go Games' for our U8, U10 and U12. It was noted that across all age levels that Boyle LGFA have great players and the future looks bright.
