Stephens day this year once again saw a huge turnout for a Gaelic Tag football match. This was the first years where our Ladies team got involved. It was a case of over 25s v under 25s. With some harsh ref-ing decisions the game was deemed a draw and went to penalties won the over 25s once again victorious. Thanks to all who showed up in support of the event.

Next up was Friday the 28th which proved to be yet again a great social event for Boyle GAA. With quiz master Tony Conboy in flying form with both questions and wit in front of a full house. At the end of the night there was no dividing the teams at the fore with McCauley/Cox's team sharing the spoils with Gannon/Lavin's and Co.

Of course player of the year awards were dished out also with the U-20 accolade going to James Bolger, Junior going to Recee Conroy, Senior to Cian Mc Keon and Ladies Payer of The Year going to Sinead Glennon. The Overall Hall of Fame went to our ever hard working club person Mary Clifford.

Well done to all, and many thanks to all who helped in the setting up and running of the hall and quiz and well wishes to all Boyle GAA members both on and off the pitch in 2019.

Boyle GAA are planning a Careers Evening on Friday 9th November at 8.30pm in the GAA club house. This is a new initiative offering our young players and their friends in the Community an opportunity to hear about College life and apprenticeships and the trials and tribulations of further education and training.

Our own locals who have tread the paths will be there to answer any questions, and we hope the evening will inform, inspire and give the opportunity to young people to hear more about further education and training-the varied routes /colleges chosen /challenges / and career options that are available to them.

Boyle GAA invite all 15-18 year olds and their parents (if they wish) to come along and hear the short presentations from a variety of professional and skilled young people who have chosen different career paths.

The unknown for many can bring excitement, but for others fear, thus hearing about college, apprenticeships and opportunities from those that have pursued these routes, will encourage our young people to aspire to achieve their full potential in their chosen career/interests.

As excitement builds around Boyle with the up and coming U14s Division 1 Championship Final next Sunday as our lads go head to head with Roscommon Gaels. The lads have trained hard all year. The coaching staff of Noel, Jim, Brendan and Steve have put in the hard graft and commitment with the lads. The effort of players and coaches has come to fruition as they rightfully take their place in the final. With a very successfull season so far, by reaching the semi final of this years Feile  and having gone through the Championship winning all  league games. The lads will not take their opposition likely having already gone head to head with Roscommon Gaels on couple occasion and losing out in the Garda Cup semi final to Michaels Galveys/Eir Og recently . Both time and venue yet to be confirmed but it look surely to be a  brilliant game and we expect that Boyle town will turn for the lads as they look to try and claim  U14 Division 1 title.

On the pitch;
The Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra sponsored Junior Team defeated St. Joseph’s in the league on Friday last.
In what was a tough, physical game, the home side pulled away in the final quarter.
The first half was full of chances for both sides, however, both sides failed to opportunities presented to them.
Boyle’s scores came from Lochlainn Conboy, David Kelly, Niall O’Donoghue and Shane Battles to have Steve Tonra’s men four points to the good at the interval.
After a couple of scores from both sides, it was the visitors who scored the game’s first goal after forty-five minutes.
However, this spurred on the home side. The impressive Reece Conroy set up his teammates on a couple of occasions to further the margin.
O’Donoghue and Conboy kept finding their range and substitutes Seamus Kane and Colin Goldrick both found the back of the net, to put the result beyond reasonable doubt.
Full Time: Boyle 2:19, St. Joseph’s 1-08.
Boyle Team: (13 aside)- D. McGovern, C. McGee, A. Simon, J. Moran, C. Brennan, R. Conroy, T. Halligan, C. Flanagan, D. Kelly, R. Hannon, S. Battles, L. Conboy, N. O’ Donoghue.

Update 2nd July

The Cooney motors sponsored Junior team continued their winning ways in Championship when they travelled to Tulsk on a warm Friday evening. Boyle had a massive panel once again but Tulsk could only field 13 players so Boyle had to go like wise. Boyle had plenty of opportunities in the first half but poor shot selection at times left them winning at half time 1.8 to 7. Of course fitness and a string bench was always going to be a big factor in this game and the flood gates opened up in the second half when Boyle run out comfortable winners at 1.12 to 6.18. Top scorer on the day was L Conboy with 1.7 while S Battles got 2 goals and a goal each by C Deery, K Morris and Marc O Connor. Boyles team on the was was as follows. The Cooney Motor sponsored Junior team travelled to Tarmonbarry Friday evening for a league game. Boyle were missing many of their starting players but nevertheless saw a panel of 20 lads. Boyle played against a strong breeze in the first half which saw them go in at the break 8 points to 6 down. The second half saw a much more spirited performance which saw Boyle run out comfortable winners at 10 to 2.20. There was a battle for top scorer on the day with David “The Finisher” Kelly taking the prize with 1.6, closely followed by Colin Goldrick with 7 points and Seamus Kane with 6. Boyle registered some well worked scores to get back on terms and went in at half time on a score line of 4-02 to 2-03 in Clanns favour. Boyle came out a fired up team in the 2nd half and reeled off 1-03 to take a 1 point lead , they pushed on to lead by 5 points with some great defending and well worked scores. Clann got a penalty in the last few minutes to bring it back to 2 but Boyle won the kick out and scored the final point of the game . Great contest and huge congratulations to the lads all round.

Update May 21st

Boyle`s eagerly anticipated La na  gClub was hosted on Sunday past. This turned out to be a wonderful occasion with a mix of all ages through out the club. Apart from the weather everything went according to plan. A sincere thank you to the committee and all volunteers who made the day possible. Of course the draw for the club monster draw was a great attraction. The overall winner of a €2,500 holiday voucher was Brian Nerney, the All Ireland tickets and night away went to Fiona and Melissa Mattimoe and the final prize of a €150 voucher to award winning Buffalo Boy went to Tadgh McKenna. The club was delighted to recognise Mikey Mc Grath on his great achievement on being selected for international soccer duty. Mikey's had the honour of picking the winners of the Monster Draw along with Kathleen Hanmore.

The club lotto saw no winner if the € 4,700 jackpot, €20 winners were Gerry Nerney, Amy Kenny and Brian Furey. Next week's draw will take place in Dodd`s bar.

It was a disappointing day out again for the McGovern Directional Drilling Senior team who lost to Clann Na Gael in the Abbey Park on Saturday evening. Both teams players without their county stars. Boyle started strongly and played some fine football in the first half but coincided a goal and point just before the break which left a margin of 6 points at half time, in what was really a unfair reflection of the work. In the first half. Boyle would be fighting hard again in the second half if they were to get a win and a well taken goal from Seamus. Kane (1.4) slowed the margins. Some poor shooting and shot selection in the later quarter from/boyle say Clann the eventual winners by 1.16 to 1.10. Boyle`S team; R Kearney, A Sharkey, D Callaghan, C Beirne, B Furery, S Purcell, R Finneran, R Hanmore, E McGrath, D Easy, C Goldrick, Ciaran Cox, S Kane, M Hanmore, Marc O Connor.

Update 14th May

The junior team were in action this weekend in a league game v neighbours Ballinameen. There was a strong breeze which should have aided Boyle in the first half but the score return from shots was poor and Boyle finished the half with only 3 scores 2 of which were well taken goals by Jack Moran and Seamus Kane. Boyle had to battle hard in the second half as Ballinameen for 13 men behind the ball time and time again, breaking at pace with numbers. Boyle pressed hard and eventually drew level thanks to a long range free from Colin Goldrick (who kept Boyle in the game for most of the 60 minutes) but it was not to be as Ballinameen broke up the field and won a free on front of the post which was slotted over for the last kick of the game.
Congratulations to Mike Tormey who came on as a sub after a number of years away from the team. Best wishes to Thomas Halligan who picked up and injury in the match.
Thee Boyle team was D McGovern, C McGee, C Boylan, C Horan, J Moran, A Sharkey, J Regan, P Lavin, T Halligan, Marc O Connor, C Goldrick, L Casey, S Kane, S Conlon and L Conboy.

Belfast trip
The Club’s second annual Social Initiative day out was once again a great success. The Club Rossie bus, driven by our own Damien Regan, brought 46 passengers to visit the Titanic Experience in Belfast on Friday last. All enjoyed this wonderful historical and educational exhibition which had the added attraction of being able to inspect the nearby SS Nomadic. Thanks to all who participated, to Martin and Barry for  organising the event, to Kathleen and James for providing refreshments before departure and Hannah for provision of scones which sustained us on our return journey. Thanks especially to Damien for taking a day off work to drive the bus. Thoughts are already turning to choosing a destination for next year’s trip!

Many thanks to Club historian Tony Conboy for adding three more frames to the already impressive pictorial record  of the Clubs history which graces the walls of the Clubrooms.  The new frames celebrate the  achievements of Sean Young , Micheal O Callaghan and stars of the 80s.    Tony Murphy is also to be complimented on designing the pictorial presentations
Thanks to Pat Goldrick for mounting the frames
