MATCH REPORTS
The Well & M Kerins Intermediate Ladies
Congratulations to The Well and M Kerins Construction sponsored Intermediate Ladies who defeated St. Ciaran's in the Championship Final on Saturday evening on a scoreline of 3.14 to 4.04 in Ballyleague. After two final appearances in the previous two years, Boyle produced a brilliant performance to finally capture the intermediate title and gain promotion to the Senior Championship for 2023. Entirely well deserved celebrations for all involved.
Boyle held a five-point lead at the interval. St. Ciaran's, to their credit, responded well in the second half, eating into the Boyle lead. Two quick-fire goals from the South Roscommon club reduced the margin. However, Boyle remained calm and tagged a few more scores of their own to see out the game and ensure the Intermediate Championship would reside in Boyle for the winter. Boyle will now progress to the Connacht Intermediate Championship with details to be confirmed. Finally, the Club wishes a smooth recovery to St Ciaran’s player who was injured in the first half.

McGovern Civils Senior Men
Our Senior Men made history yesterday by progressing to our first County Championship Final since 1927. The lads fought hard and left everything on the pitch during the rough and tumble encounter with St Brigid’s in Dr Hyde Park on Sunday - leaving the pitch on a scoreline of 1.12 - 0.12.
The weather was against us in the first half and our opponents took advantage with 2 frees and 3 points from play straight off the bat. We were hungry for the ball and the pressure on Brigid’s across the field was immense. Daire Cregg opened the scoring with a point from play against a strong wind. Soon after he was fouled off the ball and Cian McKeon popped it over. Then followed the defining moment of the first half, Sean Purcell broke down a kick out to himself and after a nifty one-two to himself the ball was with Daire - and he was dragged down and awarded a penalty - Donie Smith is no stranger to this position and booted it in the back to make it a level game. The game was left at 1.03 - 0.09 at the break - still all to play for.
It was all Boyle in the opening minutes of the second half - Donie opened scoring with a free from 50 yards after Enda was fouled, and he followed up quickly with another after an interception from Cian. Roch Hanmore did his thing and a mark from the kick out provided a ball into Cregg for another point. The crowd held their breath when the ref signalled a penalty for Brigid’s - but after a consultation with his umpires the decision was overturned for a hop ball. With the score ticking on, Conor Flanagan went down and was replaced by Eden Kerins who got straight into it. Brigid’s made their way back into the game - but it wasn’t long until the Smith’s were pushing forward - Donie with two boomers and Enda running the pitch to be pulled down in front of the posts. We held composure with 4 minutes of added time and McKeon had the last point of the game with a free.
Amazing stuff from all of the lads! Kudos also to Club Chair David Kelly for keeping the nation entertained with his magic on the Twitter machine.
Roll on the final versus Strokestown on Sunday, October 23 - the all northern county final we’ve all been waiting for.
