Our Cooney Motors sponsored junior team travelled to Strokestown on Saturday evening last to take on Strokestown in the championship
semi final. Boyle had to call on a few of the veterans for this one as
numbers were low mid week. Boyle started bright and quickly had the ball in the
onion bag thanks to Tiernan Henry. It was evenly matched from her on until Ben
Kerins got his marching orders close to half time. Boyle doing well went in 1.7
to 1.4 down at half time. Again Boyle started well in the second half and
before we knew it Boyle had two more goals without reply. Strokestown then had
a number of points on the trot and pressure was on. Boyle’s goalie was harshly
done for over carrying in the small square and saved the following penalty.
With 7 minutes additional time to be played, no team looked certain to win.
Boyle were up by a point thanks to Ray Hannon in the dying moments but there
was still time for one last Strokestown attack. The referee deemed Strokestown
forward was fouled as he shot and a free was awarded, a simple tap over and the
game ended a draw on the score line of Boyle 3.07 Strokestown 1.13. A man of
the match performance from youngsters Tiernan Henry say him finish with 2.05 to
his name. Team, K Sweeney, A O Connor, C Boylan, C Horan, J Regan, A Sharkey, C
